Child Sleep Problems in West Jordan, South Jordan, & Riverton, UT

Though the actual number depends on your child's age, the amount of sleep your child needs varies. That said, ensuring your little one is sleeping properly and getting them help if they're experiencing sleep problems is important. Fortunately, Southwest Children's Clinic, serving West Jordan, South Jordan, & Riverton, UT, and the nearby regions, helps with children's sleep problems so your child can sleep peacefully, grow, and reach their full potential daily.

Types of Sleep Disorders

It's common for children five and under to be too excited to sleep. They may not want to go to bed, will wake up throughout the night, or may take some time to wind down and fall asleep. This is usually occasional, but it could be a problem if it's persistently happening.

While it's more common in older children and teens, your child may have trouble sleeping, especially from excessive worrying. They may have constantly racing thoughts that interfere with falling and staying asleep.

Sleep apnea concerns some children, as it occurs when they have enlarged tonsils or adenoids. It can cause them to wake up throughout the night, usually unknowingly, trying to get enough air. They may snore or feel tired throughout the day, even if they got enough sleep.

A child would also sleepwalk, for various reasons, or have night terrors — an issue that occurs when they wake up in the middle of the night from fear.

How Southwest Children's Clinic Helps

If your child is having difficulty falling asleep or remaining that way or with any other issue affecting their quality of sleep, the practitioners at Southwest Children's Clinic can assist. After completing a medical history report for your child, you and your child or just your child, depending on their age, will meet with a pediatric specialist from our office to discuss any sleep problems your child is currently having.

Your child will receive a custom-tailored treatment plan at our office to help improve sleep. Sometimes, lifestyle advice is enough. Medication could be necessary to control certain contributing health conditions, though. Sometimes, the best course of action is to refer your child to a specialist for tonsil removal surgery, a.k.a. a tonsillectomy.

Southwest Children's Clinic and the neighboring communities, has multiple practitioners who can diagnose and treat sleep problems in children so your child can get the sleep they need (And possibly you, too!) Just so you know, before any treatments are prescribed, your child undergoes a comprehensive diagnostic process.
