Find out more about why your child needs routine wellness exams with their pediatrician.Child Wellness Checkups

Keeping your child healthy and happy are the most important things for a parent. Whether you are a first-time parent or you been around this block more than once, it’s important to understand why child wellness checkups are not to be missed, no matter how healthy your child might seem. Our West Jordan, UT, pediatricians are here to explain the importance of these visits.

Why visit a pediatrician?

The moment your child is born it’s important that our West Jordan children’s doctor begins to monitor their health and development. After all, there are certain congenital health problems (conditions that are present at birth) that could go undetected if your child doesn’t get a proper pediatric evaluation. We need to regularly track your child’s health, growth, and physical and mental development.

We also need to make sure that your child is reaching certain developmental milestones. By bringing your child in for these wellness checkups we can detect problems early on when they can be much simpler to manage or treat.

Plus, these visits aren’t just about your child; they are also about you (the parents). We know that it isn’t always easy to know what your child needs, and each child is different. It’s normal to have questions and concerns along the way and it’s comforting to have a pediatrician by your side that can be there to help and provide reassurance.

When should I bring my child in for checkups?

Thanks to the American Academy of Pediatrics there is a pretty clear-cut schedule of how often you should be bringing your little one in. Your child’s first appointment will occur a few days after they are born. From there you will want to bring them in at:

  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 2 years
  • 2.5 years

After they are 2 ½ years old, you can start bringing them in once a year until they reach 21 (unless otherwise noted by our pediatrician).

If it’s time to schedule your child’s next checkup, or if you have questions about your child’s health, don’t hesitate to contact Southwest Children's Clinic in West Jordan, UT. From fevers and sports-related injuries to preventive medical care, we handle it all!
